dancer11Our 2nd annual, “Art for Jack–Celebrating Children’s Art” was ( Program ) Tuesday, May 20th at 3:30-7:30pm, children’s art workshops began at 4pm, at High Desert School MPR off the 14 freeway at Crown Valley Rd., Acton.  Painting and craft workshops, family entertainment, ‘Jack’s Young Artists’–performances of local young artists, art exhibits, auction, and a special performance by Center Stage Opera!  Only $5  for admission. 10356352_859091650773083_4116294420460639043_n

May is brain tumor awareness month!  The leading cause of cancer-related death inIMG_1597 children is one of the least funded areas of cancer research.  DIPG, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, is responsible for 80% of pediatric brain tumor deaths annually.  Event proceeds benefit the DIPG research fund at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  A special tribute wall was made to honor several DIPG warriors:  Naithan Sizemore, Tiara Caleb, Cole Marshall, Chase Kerr, and Jack Demeter were among the honorees.

The kids had a blast learning acrylic painting with Heidi Vaughn who taught art at the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks for over 30 years.  Stefanie Schussler, local artist and teacher in Acton, CA lead the kids in a collage project, and Peggy Marrone, art teacher at the Agua Dulce Elementary School, led the watercolor project.  For more information about this event, its history, and related events, take a look at the article written for this webiste below (click on picture).cheer1
