is it important?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Pediatric Cancer research as a whole is underfunded\u2013only 4% of the NCI\u2019s annual budget for cancer research goes to pediatric cancers. \u00a0DIPG is an example of a pediatric cancer that has been marginalized as rare, yet is a common pediatric brain tumor, responsible for 80% of pediatric brain tumor deaths annually in the US. \u00a0We are running for awareness of this fact, and also for the unacceptable reality that governs decision-making for research investment: \u00a0short-term corporate profits \u00a0tend to precede our children\u2019s lives as matter of priority.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/testjack5.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/elenaplayhouse1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1647\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Elenaplayhouse1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Elena Desserich\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why are we running?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0AWARENESS for DIPG and pediatric brain tumors, and the unacceptable reality that the leading cause of cancer-related death in children (brain tumors) remains one of the least-funded areas of cancer research. \u00a0DIPG has no survivors, and no significant progress to that effect in over 30 years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/testjack5.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/talin2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1648\" John Bradley Thompson\u00a0April 9, 2014, among many others this year. \u00a0He was diagnosed and first treated at Children\u2019s Hospital Boston, under the care of <a href=\"http:\/\/doctors.dana-farber.org\/directory\/profile.asp?pict_id=0000034\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Mark Kieran,<\/a> director of the neuro-oncology center, before his treatment began at St. Jude\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital. \u00a0John was beloved by his family, community, and the world online community via<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinkjohnbradley.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.thinkjohnbradley.com<\/a>. \u00a0His story remains an inspiration, and we walk with them in their grief. \u00a0 We will be running with an orange flag for John\u2013his favorite color.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0The Boston Run was dedicated to John 6\/8\/2014. \u00a0This run in Washington is for all.<\/div>\n<div><strong>DONATIONS<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>We are not running for money! \u00a0However, if you would like to support DIPG research\u00a0at your regional children\u2019s research hospital, near whichever city we are running, simply let us know in the memo. \u00a0 \u00a0We encourage the support around the country of children\u2019s research hospitals with active research in neuro-oncology, hopeful to initiate and\/or support already existing funds for DIPG research. \u00a0We are based in Los Angeles County, and support the DIPG research fund at Children\u2019s Hospital Los Angeles.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If we are running in your city, and you want to help fight DIPG, contact us and\/or donate with the memo for the pediatric research institution you wish to support, or, if you already have that information, donate directly. \u00a0For those Angels City\u00a0Run\u00a0\u00a0for DIPG Awareness was the Boston Run Sunday June 8, 2014, to make a start, with the hopes of traveling to Washington D.C. for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Walk\u00a0for DIPG<\/strong> awareness traveled\u00a0from the Federal Building on Wilshire Blvd, to end \u00a0at<strong>\u00a0 the Santa Monica Pier<\/strong>, on Saturday August 30th. \u00a0This just happens to be Jack\u2019s birthday, Jack\u2019s Angels\u2019 namesake, and we celebrated with cake and playing at Pacific Park on the Pier!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boston
