we have not done enough research to know what exactly causes it.\u00a0\u00a0 There is no cure, but there is a regular frequency of incidence of children diagnosed with the disease each year, year in, year out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4410 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys-318x318.jpg 318w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/4boys.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>DIPG is literally cancer\u2019s death-row for children.\u00a0 It\u2019s a poignant example of how childhood cancers are marginalized as rare and neglected for research despite the fact that it\u2019s responsible for so much death, and that such research has the potential to accelerate the process of finding cures for cancer.\u00a0\u00a0 Roughly 80% of pediatric brain tumor deaths, the leading cause of death in children with cancer, is attributed to DIPG.\u00a0 Hardly an irrelevant disease, the families of the afflicted have been made to feel rare, freakish, and unworthy of a concerted effort to be helped.\u00a0 There are obviously gaps in our system where accountability is not only needed, it is now being demanded by parents and childhood cancer organizations across the United States.\u00a0 I\u2019m one of them.\u00a0 I lost my son Jack to DIPG in the summer of 2012, and am committed to ensuring change in the reality these families experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/chadandjackslabel1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4016\" src=\"https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/chadandjackslabel1-200x300.png\" alt=\"chadandjackslabel1\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/chadandjackslabel1-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/chadandjackslabel1.png 768w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/chadandjackslabel1-683x1024.png 683w, https:\/\/jacksangelsfoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/chadandjackslabel1-100x150.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Briefly, all the childhood cancer awareness bills in Congress for the last 10 years containing provisions for the analysis of money-flow at NCI have died.\u00a0 What has been pieced-together from the wreckage is a comprehensive bill called the STAR Act with provisions for Survivorship, Treatment, Access, and Research for childhood cancer, minus the accountability factor.\u00a0 <strong>The DIPG Awareness Resolution HRes586,<\/strong>\u00a0written by Congressman Steve Knight (R-CA-25)and introduced 1\/13\/2016, does what all the other \u201chard-law\u201d bills cannot:\u00a0 it asks for greater consideration for low-survival rate cancers (urgency) and years of life lost (children) with the NCI research grant process.\u00a0 HRes586 raises awareness for DIPG and childhood cancers in general, designating the 4th week of May as National DIPG Awareness Week, giving hope to the kids fighting hard right now to stay alive and finally honoring the thousands of young children who have faced death bravely with scarce attention for many, many years.\u00a0 Please encourage friends and family across the country to ask their Representatives to sign it;
