III “Good Grief” Playgroup
This is a non-professional, parent/experience-based support group for children who have suffered a major loss such as a sibling to illness or accident, or a parent or guardian, and their families, meeting twice monthly.
We aim to provide:
- camaraderie, friendship, and for children to carry into other areas of their lives where they may feel different and alone: the group is meant to be a touchstone of support and togetherness in these situations.
- fellowship for parents
- each group-time will feature an optional art project or other therapeutic and fun tool to exploring their inner lives, helping it to all make sense, and to promote healing that comes with sharing with others.
- games and activities will be supplied, and we have an open invitation to donations and sharing of toys, activities, and art supplies.
- a licensed, interfaith minister will be present for most gatherings to be available for support.
- the Group is underwritten by Jack’s Angels Foundation and its insurance policy, and participants will be expected to sign a liability waiver and a list of expectations of we can and cannot provide.
IV. Project “Angel Box” We have seen the delight, joy, and togetherness that art brings to DIPG children and their siblings and parents. Jack’s Angels provides canvases, paints, paper, palette, brushes, and whatever other gizmos we have lying around to enhance a painting experience. It’s something that can be shared, and the fun of painting is something a DIPG child can enjoy even when the going gets tough. Also, the togetherness and meaning it brings the family is priceless, leaving a legacy of love to be enjoyed for life for those of us who remain…
V. Art for Jack has been for three years 2013-2015 an annual event including children’s art workshops, art exhibits of all varieties, family entertainment, and some featured presentation to promote the arts for children in the local community. The art for this program is finding a home at the Santa Clarita Center for Spiritual Living this December 2016, at 18364 Soledad Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91387 in a new display. It is all part of Jack’s Angels desire to support the arts, especially for children, in it’s activities and support projects as we raise awareness for DIPG.
“Just Say It!”–DIPG, the Campaign for a National Day
This is an ongoing journalism project originally funded by a kickstarter campaign for $500. Taking that, with an equal gift from a family member, and a partial donation of a plane ticket, we were able to cover expenses that month for a trip to Sacramento, and Washington DC. Advocacy/activism does cost money, though it can be done on a shoestring and a lot of walking. The project will document Jack’s Angels General Director Janet Demeter’s journey in her activism for children with DIPG and her quest for getting a National Day for the heroes facing that disease. The full press release for September’s activities can be found at the following link: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2015/08/prweb12922869.htm
VI. Shop with iGive follow this link to sign-up for free for iGive, a shopping program through which participating vendors donate a percentage to Jack’s Angels with your purchase.
IV. Jack Box The “Jack Boxes” are large plastic jars used in businesses to solicit donations for Jack’s Angels. The contents are collected roughly every 6 months or when we are called to empty it.
