Pallone & Eshoo Applaud House Passage of Bill to Authorize President Biden’s Groundbreaking ARPA-H Initiative
Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) released the following joint statement today after the House of Representatives passed the H.R. 5585, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Health Act to establish ARPA-H, an independent agency to accelerate biomedical innovation. The legislation, which was introduced by Eshoo, passed the House by a vote of 336-85.
“Today the House passed legislation to turn President Biden’s bold proposal to create an agency tasked exclusively with driving biomedical breakthroughs into a reality. ARPA-H has incredible potential to revolutionize medicine by transforming how we detect, treat, and cure the deadliest diseases affecting Americans.
“The pivotal investments we’re making today will become the biomedical breakthroughs of tomorrow. The establishment of ARPA-H signals a promising future with new cures and treatments as well as cutting-edge tests to detect illnesses sooner.
“We are pleased by the broad bipartisan support this legislation received in the House today and urge its passage in the Senate, so that this agency can quickly embark on fulfilling its promise to achieve breakthroughs to conquer deadly diseases and healthier patient outcomes.”
